Michail Arvanitidis, a graduate of the Department of Physiotherapy at the Technological Educational Institute of Lamia, relocated to the United Kingdom, where he earned an MSc in Advanced Manipulative Physiotherapy from the University of Birmingham and became a member of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP). During his postgraduate studies, he worked at a specialized clinic in Birmingham, focusing on treating individuals coping with spinal pain. He completed his doctoral studies at the Centre for Precision Rehabilitation for Spinal Pain, where his research focused on the study of neuromuscular control in people with low back pain, utilizing advanced technologies. Currently, Michail continues as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, participating in the collaborative research program “Cervical Spine and Muscle Adaptation after Spaceflight and Relationship to Herniation Risk” with NASA and ESA astronauts in Houston, Texas. This research is dedicated to exploring the adaptation of the cervical spine and muscles following space flights and their correlation with the risk of disc herniation. The results of this study are expected to have a significant impact by helping develop preventive measures for astronauts and increasing our understanding of the risk of disc herniation for the general population.
